Unobtrusive Javascript Take ][

Last week we set the stage for adding some messy javascript to our app, and then got an unexpected lesson in live group debugging :) This week we're back at it, ready to write some javascript code that delights our users while not making our views an unreadable mess.

We're going to take the simple activity tracker we built a few weeks ago, and turn it into a single page app by moving the form for new activities onto the index page, and have it submit via ajax when javascript is enabled.

See the whiteboard for notes and the google hangout link.

Getting Started

  1. Head over to https://github.com/rails-school/simple_tracker and fork the repository to a personal account
  2. Clone your fork from the command line

    bash$ git clone [email protected]:MY_USERNAME/simple_tracker

  3. create the database and bring it up to date

    bash$ rake db:create db:migrate db:seed

  4. install dependencies

    bash$ bundle install

  5. launch the server

    bash$ rails server

  6. Visit http://localhost:3000 and make sure you can create a new activity
