Migrating from Heroku to a generic VPS

The time has come; our school website has outgrown Heroku's free tier. Let's use this as a teaching opportunity.

Our Postgres database is nearing the 10,000 row limit for Heroku's free tier. The next step up is $9/month. Meanwhile, a 1GB VPS from a reputable vendor is only $10/month, and with a VPS we can get free real SSL from Let's Encrypt (currently our traffic is proxied through Cloudflare in order to have free SSL).

So I propose we migrate our website from Heroku to a simple Passenger and Capistrano setup.

Does anyone have a VPS we can use? If not we'll use my personal 1GB Linode.

Let's perform the migration together at Noisebridge during the period of this lesson.

Be sure to complete the following Codewars challenge before class! (If your RailsSchool profile includes your Codewars username, you'll get a nifty star if you complete the challenge.)
