Building a Web App Using ASP.NET MVC
As rails coders, we often live in a bubble of gems, convention-over-configuration, and dynamic typing. It's good to pop out of that bubble every now and then to explore some different schools of thought on how to accomplish the same goals.
In this class we'll build a basic app using C# .NET and the ASP.NET MVC framework. If you want to follow along, and don't run Windows, feel free to download a free Win10 ISO that you can run in VirtualBox or VMWare. You can also download the free VisualStudio community edition. Lastly, you'll need SQL Server for the database (I downloaded SQL Server 2014 Express With Tools, but I think all you need is LocalDB for this).
We'll discuss the differences between this platform and rails, and why we might want to use one over the other.
